The story of birdie-num

In response to the many questions about the name of my blog - where in the world did I come up with it????
The sad part is that this story is rather lame.
Our old computer had all these sounds you could set to go off when you had finished printing. Most of them where pretty normal, raindrop etc - you get the idea.
There where three sounds, however, which where really quite strange.
"Wild eep", "birdie num-num", and "Don't touch".
I can explain no more than that. If you want to know what they sound like then ask me next time you see me - and make sure you slip in a couple of $100 bills.
So how did I get birdie-num with only the one "num"? Can you believe somebody already had that as the name for their blog? So if you thought I was weird guess again! All the kids are doing it! As a result I am reduced to the status of one "num" and one only.
There just aren't enough "nums" to go 'round you see.
Question; why do we have daylight savings?
I am a big fan and, although I am quite tired, am still enjoying the extra light. But it was pointed out to me that there doesn't seem to be a real reason for having it.
Does anyone know why we do it? Is it just for fun?
This question is starting to eat away at me. (It's good to see that I'm interested in the highly important, life enriching information isn't it?)

The question is, who's weirder? The weird person or the weird person who follows the weird person? Or even weirder, the weird person who knows the weird person is weird but weirdly still follows them in their weird ways?

As for daylight savings, i think it originated in industrial england. The whole world is based on Greenich Mean Time, (its a place just outside London where it is by definition 0 hours relative to the rest of the world, which is why we are +9 hours, relative to London.) Now, London was the first city to reach 1 million people and as such was the first to have to install gas lighting in the streets since the new houses were so closely built that when it got dark it got very dark and a bit dangerous, (dodgy alleys etc...) Plus, in England it can be completely dark by 3.30 in the arvo during winter. Therefore, they probably had a meeting of the gentry and decided more daylight was needed. The english being english therefore would have decided to make the rest of the world follow suit.

Thanks my uneducated guess.

So Becadus - I don't know why you lot have daylight savings but in Qld we don't. And some nitwit politician said it was so we don't get sunburnt from spending too long in the sun. Queenslanders? Sunburnt? never... ;) love you boo.

Hey there, news from the North :)
Yup, Bee the Canuck here, reporting we've just switched out of daylight's savings time here. Seems this guy is the one we need to be thankful to (or not ;)

Just got my wisdom teeth pulled (all four of them!) and I'm feeling a little groggy on this Remembrance Day... which I always find depressing from the get-go.
Well, just thought I'd stop by and see your new fangled site. Pretty cool ;) I hope we'll see more of your refined wit and comedic entreprises :D Take care now!
