So This Is Goodbye

This one isn't mine but I wish it was....

So This Is Goodbye
~ Stina Nordenstam

So this is goodbye
So this is how you say it
These are the words
It's the voice you're using
It's the picture you've seen

So this is goodbye
So this is how you say it
This is the time it takes you
It didn't take you a lot now did it?
It didn't hurt you a lot now did it?

So this is goodbye
So this is how you spell it
Where you place it in your mouth
What happens if I didn't hear you?
What happens if it wasn't serious?

Well I was around
Maybe it was you I came to see
Maybe it was you who invited me

I remember your eyes were on me

I remember your eyes were on me

I remember your eyes were on me

I remember your eyes were on me

goodbye......

Patience

Waiting. Always waiting.
It's midnight and I'm still pacing
the house

waiting waiting

This train is taking too long
It's not my way to be patient
Winter months drag by and I'm still

waiting

I don't always see why I wait
I just know that I do
and the same repeated phrase comes from you

"Not now. Too soon.
Be patient. You need room.
At the end of the winter and
the end of the night
you will finally glimpse
what was hidden from your sight
So keep waiting for me..."

And I see now that I will always be

waiting

The Dance

I don't dance to anyone else's music
I've got my own moves too
Coz I'm free to be whoever I am
Whoever I want to be.

Held down too long
by the critique of the world
it's now time to step along

forget the rest
forget the best

Coz at the end of the day
I am just me....

Flaws

We used a saw to cut this skin
and find what flaws lay within.
We searched so hard to find the source
of what went wrong and why all this remorse.

But we found nothing to give a clue
to the reason for such a problem so you
stitched the skin back into place
and I forced a smile back on my face.

Comparison

Comparison pulls us down;
makes us low.
Comparison is all about show.
And the inadequacies we feel
come from within - not without
so now it is time to
sort yourself out.

Towards Zero

The fatal flaws
that hide within our souls
Revealed by storms
that tear apart
the fragile coverings
that contain our secrets..
Of darkened past.

Crippled feet walk tortuous paths
thorns rip tender flesh
and pain is but a distant memory....

These steps move closer
to insight.
The counter moves down towards zero -
It seems our time is short
We must fit a life time into one day....

Fences

I despise this mundane prose.
Keep your lies interesting, poetic,
because even this 'realism'
is only a pale shade of the truth.

Crooked fences climb higher
and build a barrier between us and the world.
But I'm not the person I was before,
and I don't seek your approval anymore.....

My Ivy House

I'm getting back.
Getting back to the place
I wanted to be.
Getting back home
but home has changed for me.
The house still looks as it did before.
The walls still hold the structure while the ivy
moves in twisted tangles over the bricks.
And I realise....
Home is not what has changed.
It's me.

What is Love?

We say we don't want to interfere
We say we don't want to stir the waters
and move the mud that lies beneath -
But how can we love and stand by
while the ones we love move towards
an ill-fated future?

That is not Love.

Love is words

Love is action

Love is life

Gone

I'm going round in circles,
spinning my way through thoughts unspoken.
It's hard to find an answer to the problem,
and fix what is now broken.

But now, using this knowledge about you;
making these choices and mistakes too,
learning from these faux-pas
being realistic and not wishing on a star........

When will you stop living in fear?
Get your act together or I'm outta here.....
And as I sit amid this sea of faces
I realise we're heading different places......

Heart and Head

House. Attic. Ladders. Stairs.
Locked doors. Overgrown gardens,
shared with friends.
Journeys taken
Beliefs are shaken

What do these dreams mean?

Searching for these answers
learning to see my mind
perhaps I am scared of what I will find -
or maybe I already know the answer?

They say love is all you need.
That God supplies you with the love to feed you.
But what my head might know
my heart chooses not to follow
Can I get myself in sync
and match my heart with what I think?

The Light In You

The sound of you
I can hear it
I can feel it

The life in you
I can see it
I can feel it

All over you.......

The light in you
I can touch it
bathe in it too

Coz in that light of you
I am made clean
I am made new

And if this moment of insight
isn't enough for me
then I'll never be free.
I need your love
so cover me now
before I am gone -
lost in the flood......

Roads End

Sitting in the cemetery that day
A picture of life at its end
sucked dry of it's passion
By Loss and Love.
It's only a second so make it count.
Be Big. Make a name,
renew that old flame
Start a revolution,
Move against the grain.
Be original but don't stand out.
Earn your piece.
Earn you piece of this world
Then watch it decay
When you no longer inhabit
The temporary flesh that
Covers your soul.

Street Of Dreams

Howz your life today?
Walking home with that person you barely know.
Walking down the street of dreams......

Did it hold so much promise in the night,
Full of people and full of light?
But in the light of day
In it's stink and decay
It causes you to wonder...

You slip unknowing between poetry and prose

This street of dreams
This street of weeds

Full of those resolutions.....
How many fell from grace;
Made a fatal mistake?
Breaking the pact that held them tight and safe

This street of weeds
On this street of dreams
All you wanna do is scream.....

Restless One

Thunder rips the sky......

Lightening tears apart the dark
A perceptive eye exposes my heart.
I abandoned structure for you
coz I thought this freedom would see me through.

Since that moment, late nights call this one again.
My restless one, bring me comfort don't bring me pain....
These late nights will be the death of me
Coz when I'm awake you're all I see
And even when I close my eyes
The image of you in my mind lies.
And cradled in your arms I rest
This weary head against your chest.

Say you're here to stay,
Bring me comfort, don't bring me pain.

Take It All

Take this broken body and make it new.
Take this life and this heart too.
Mend it. Use it. Make it great.
Teach it to love and not to hate.
Take this mind, this feeble thought
Take it all. With blood it was bought.

Far From Here

Tides sweep across the bay
Carrying us far away.
Moving on this waters journey
To the ocean
Far. Wide. Deep.
So say we'll keep this moment
The rest of our lives
Pure and untouched.

We all have crosses to bear
Sins to escape
I just don't know
How to get out of this place.

Take me far from here
Where the past meets the presence in fear
Take me, my hand in yours
And walk along foreign shores
Far from here.

And this goes out to.....

For all those friends (you know who you are) who have been through this lately....

The Usual Fiasco

And so it goes
the usual fiasco.
The music plays,
I've heard this song before
the familiar sounds
of questioning each thought...

But I've found out that

You're telling lies, You're telling lies
Confusing me inside.
You're telling lies, you're telling lies
You confuse me with your eyes.

Can't seem to stop
the spiral once it's started.
From black to grey
you've made it all so hazy.
It's time to stop
this game of cruel pretending.

Coz now I know that....

You're telling lies, You're telling lies
Confusing me inside.
You're telling lies, you're telling lies
You confuse me with your eyes.

It's no surprise,
you're telling lies,
the usual fiasco

Just tell me, just tell me
just tell me, please just tell me.....
The Truth.

A Good Yarn

The art of telling a good yarn is tricky and elusive. There seems to be something of a pattern to conversation which I can only describe as "yarn etiquette". Yarn etiquette does not follow the conventional rules of table talk for dinner parties (such as one might expect in British aristocracy) rather, the Yarn is reserved for the Australian table.
While yarn telling varies with different groups in the city and the country there are some universal (and by universal I mean universally Australian) traits that accompany a dinner party "yarn-fest".
One must realise that Yarns are first and foremost nostalgic treks. They are events that have been eroded by time (and selective memory) and form a funny, scary, useful (but not always relevant) story.
The more outrageous the event - the better the Yarn.

As one moves around in society, one becomes acquainted with the polite segway to the Yarn itself. A yarn must never be attempted until proper introduction is made.
First, one must find a connection, or appear to find a connection, with the current conversation (relevance is relative here, a tenuous link will suffice).

Second, begin the Yarn with the line "I remember when...."

* it is important to note that when in the company of people who may recollect the same event with more accuracy, it is appropriate to alter the line to "Do you remember when....?"

Third, when recounting embarrassing stories about others, be sure to give a name. Everyone knows that a story about "a friend" is always a reference to one-self.
Fourth, hand gestures are essential to getting one's point across. Bigger gestures are better and add to the overall impact of the Yarn.

Fifth, at the end of the Yarn repetition can be used in two situations,
  1. If the crowd responds well, repetition of the key points of the Yarn can help one relive the moment of Good Yarn Glory

  2. If the response is not quite what one expects, repetition followed by explanation may be employed to help the crowd understand why this was a good yarn and deserves more than it got....

Sixth, a good yarn will lead to a "yarn-fest" (a swapping extravaganza of yarns). This fest ends when someone (this person exists in every crowd) tells a yarn that is inappropriate, not funny or fails to obey yarn etiquette (as laid out previously).

By following these simple and basic rules, one will be equipped to participate in any conversation that occurs around the dinner table, bbq or afternoon tea.

Special #2

This song by Adele has been a bit of a 'muse' for me for a while now. Thought I would share it.

Hometown Glory

I've been walking in the same way as I did
Missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
"Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I could call?"
"No and thank you, please Madam. I ain't lost, just wandering"

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I've met
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain't gonna stand
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain't gonna take it
Shows that we ain't gonna stand
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I've met

Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

- Adele
